Japan Has World’s Most Powerful Passport

Japan continues to have the world’s most powerful passport, according to the recent Henley Passport Index, which ranks passports of countries worldwide, taking into account the number of destinations their holders can access without being obliged to apply for a visa at first.

The index shows that holders of Japan’s passport can travel to a total of 193 destinations without being obliged to apply for a visa at first, VisaGuide.World reports.

The Henley Passport Index, which ranks 199 passports of countries worldwide, taking into account the data provided by the International Air Travel Association (IATA), shows that in the second position have been placed both Singapore and South Korea, with visa-free and visa-on-arrival scores of a total of 192 destinations.

At the same time, the index reveals that the third position is occupied by two European countries, Spain and Germany, which means that holders of both countries’ passports are eligible to travel to a total of 190 destinations without a visa.

The fourth position in the index is shared by the following three European countries, whose holders have visa-free access to a total of 189 destinations;

In the fifth position are placed the following European countries, whose passports have a visa-free and visa-on-arrival score of 188:

  • Austria
  • Denmark
  • Netherlands
  • Sweden

At the same time, the report shows that in the sixth position are France, Ireland, and Portugal, while all persons who hold these countries’ passports are eligible to travel without a visa to a total of 187 destinations.

In addition, Henley Passport Index shows that Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland as well as the United States’ passports give their holders access to a large number of destinations; thus, all of them share the seventh position. The report shows that holders of these countries’ passports can travel to a total of 186 destinations without being required to apply for a visa at first.

In the eighth position are Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Greece, and Malta, while their passport holders are eligible to travel visa-free to a total of 185 destinations.

Besides, the recent update of the index reveals that the ninth position is occupied by Hungary, whose holders can travel to a total of 182 destinations without a visa.

In the tenth position are the following countries, whose passports give their holders access to a total of 182 destinations without a visa at first; Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia.
