Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic enrichment program for outstanding high school students from throughout the world. Every summer, students from approximately 150 countries have the option to participate in a two-week multidisciplinary program online or on Yale’s historic campus.

YYGS is one of the most internationally diverse and accessible pre-college programs in the world. Over 2,000 students from over 150 countries are served by the program, which gives over $3 million in need-based financial aid to both domestic and international students.

Yale Young Global Scholars Programme

Yale University is the third-oldest university in the United States. Students can enroll in a variety of courses through the Yale Young Global Scholars Program. The main purpose of this summer program in the United States is to encourage young people to make worldwide relationships.

Only the English version of the software is accessible. No proof of English proficiency is required for the YYGS program. If you are fluent in English, you may apply. While living the life of a university student, participants will have the opportunity to meet like-minded friends from all around the world.

Should You Attend The Yale Young Global Scholars Programme?

You now have a better understanding of Yale Global Scholars, but is it the right option for you? Before making a decision, consider the following three questions.

1. What is your motivation for attending?

This is the most critical question to ask, and you must ensure that your expectations are reasonable. Here are some compelling reasons to participate in the program

  • You want to experience college life.
  • You wish to learn more about a specific topic or career route.
  • You would want to meet new individuals.

Any of the aforementioned objectives are viable and attainable for YYGS. The program will provide you with a wonderful opportunity to learn about college life, particularly American college life, because it will take place on Yale’s campus. The programs are of outstanding quality and will teach you a lot, and you can customize the experience to learn more about your desired career path and areas of profound interest to you.

2. Are You Able to Afford It?

Despite the fact that the Yale Young Global Scholars program offers a large number of scholarships, competition is stiff, and you should not expect to win one. As a result, the cost of the program must be considered.

The tuition, accommodation, and board for Yale’s young global scholar’s program is $6,500 for the residential program and $3,500 for the online program. For most families, that’s a significant quantity of money for a brief summer program, and you shouldn’t feel obligated to come up with it.

3. What Are Your Other Summer Options?

Before agreeing to join in a YYGS program, make sure it is the best way for you to spend your summer. The sessions are brief, but because they occur throughout the summer, they may prevent you from engaging in other summer activities such as work, school, or other extracurricular activities.

Eligibility Criteria For The Yale Young Global Scholars Programme

What are the Eligibility Criteria For the yale young global scholars program? Below are some of them

  • You must be at least 16 years old by July 19, 2021.
  • You must be fluent in the English Language since the programs are taught in English.
  • You must be a current high school student.
  • This must be your first time taking part in the program
  • If you previously applied to YYGS but were not admitted or were unable to attend AND match the qualifying conditions outlined above, you are invited to reapply for YYGS 2021.

Is Yale Young Global Scholars Prestigious

Will being a Yale Young Global Scholars participant impress college admissions officers? If you just put it on your college application, it won’t help you much. The program isn’t competitive or well-known enough to have a substantial impact on college admissions, despite its low acceptance rate. It will be similar to any other extracurricular activity, such as attending a local summer camp or joining a club. Because the program is affiliated with Yale, applying there may give your application a slight edge by demonstrating interest in the university; but, in most, if not all, cases, this will not be enough to determine whether or not you will be admitted.

As a result, we propose that you consider Yale Young Global Scholars as a means to give your college application a tiny boost. It probably won’t make a difference whether a school admits you or not, especially for top-tier colleges.

Yale Young Global Scholars Application

The YYGS application portal is available on their website. In September, the YYGS application will be accessible. The early action deadline is in early November, while the regular decision is in mid-January. Early action applicants will get their admission decision by mid-December and will have until early January to decide whether or not to attend. Regular decision applicants will get their admission decision by mid-March and must decide whether or not to enroll by that date.

After that, you’ll fill out the YYGS application, which is pretty similar to a college application. You must supply the following documents:

Yale Young Global Scholars Acceptance Rate

The Yale Young Global Scholars program has no set acceptance rate. However, according to data, just 2,000 students were chosen out of 7,000 who applied for the program in 2020, resulting in an admission rate of 8%. Over the years, the number of applications has surely increased faster than the number of acceptances, with 1,768 out of 5,500 accepted in 2018, marking a 32 percent rate.

While YYGS is a tough program, it is nothing compared to getting into Yale University, which has an acceptance rate of about 6%, which is significantly lower than the Yale Young Global Scholars acceptance rate.

Yale Tuition 2020

Over the previous few decades, the cost of attending college has gradually increased, and few institutions have been spared.

For the 2019-2020 academic year, Yale charges $55,500 in tuition, $9,400 in rooming, and $7,200 in boarding, for a total of $72,100. The school also estimates that books and personal expenses cost students over $3,700 per year, with a $125 student activities fee, bringing the total cost of tuition to around $75,925 per year.

Yale also lists school health insurance ($2,404) and senior class dues ($119) as potential fees. However, depending on how much a student’s family earns, these prices may vary significantly.
