Authorities in Japan are discussing the possibility to permit international visa holders to re-enter the country from next month, according to Japan’s national broadcasting network NHK.
In April, Japan banned the entry for citizens from 146 countries in an effort to stop the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, VisaGuide.World reports.
Due to the entry bans and travel restrictions imposed by a large share of countries, amid the Coronavirus outbreak, the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau received many requests from internationals stranded in the country asking to extend their visas.
Japan’s government ban included tourists, permanent residents, short-term business travellers, temporary workers as well as exchange tourists. However, permanent residents, temporary workers and exchange students would not be permitted to re-enter Japan, if they weren’t in Japan when the ban took effect or left Japan at the time when the ban started to be applied.
The latest of Japan’s government move, also contains some conditions that should be fulfilled by persons entering the country.
According to the announcement of NHK, persons entering Japan, regardless of visa status, must take a PCR test upon the entry, and stay self-isolated for two weeks.
Starting from the next month, persons who own a valid visa to live in Japan will have to fill in a re-entry form, upon temporarily leaving the country, and subsequently re-enter the country.
On August 13, nearly 192,000 foreign nationals were out of Japan. About 29,000 of them have left since the temporary restrictions were introduced.
The decision will be applied to passengers from 159 countries. Thirteen new zones include Belize, Ethiopia, Gambia, Bhutan, Lesotho, Nigeria, Malawi, Rwanda, Trinidad and Tobago, South Sudan, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
In March, the Japanese Foreign Ministry revealed that they invalidated the visas that have been issued to the people from countries which had been profoundly affected by the Coronavirus outbreak.
