Indonesia Abolishes Mandatory Quarantine Requirement for Arrivals From Other Countries

Citizens from other countries planning to travel to Indonesia will no longer be required to follow mandatory quarantine rules upon their arrival after such requirements have ceased from being applied.

Such a decision has been confirmed by Indonesia’s government while stressing that it became effective on March 22, VisaGuide.World reports.

The new changes have been taken following the example of other Southeast Asian countries that have started to ease the restrictions imposed due to the Coronavirus and its new strains.

The announcement was made by Tourism and Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, during which he said he hopes the easing of travel restrictions would positively impact the tourism sector, boosting the number of international tourists to more than 3 million during this year.

“With the handling of the pandemic more controlled …today we announce that the policy of no quarantine has been expanded across Indonesia,” Sandiaga pointed out, as reported by Reuters.

Such an announcement came after the successful implementation of a self-isolation waiver for visitors to Bali, Batam, as well as Bintan islands near Singapore.

In addition, the Minister stressed that international tourists would still be required to present a negative result of the Coronavirus PCR test before reaching the country.

According to the figures provided by the World Health Organization, over 5,967,182 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus and its new strains in Indonesia since the beginning of the pandemic, while a total of 153,892 people have died up to this point.

In addition, based on the WHO figures, in the last seven days, a total of 67,058 people have contracted the Coronavirus while 1,455 people have died.

However, authorities in Indonesia have decided   to ease the restrictions imposed due to the virus in order to ease the travel process, despite the ongoing pandemic situation.

“We are now preparing to transition to a new post-pandemic economic order, and we will carry out this normalization in the next few months. If everything goes smoothly after Eid, then this process will continue so that we can expand our economic activities,” Uno pointed out.

As part of the efforts to further ease the restrictions imposed due to the virus, authorities in Indonesia previously announced that they decided to lift the requirement to present a negative result of the Coronavirus test for domestic flights.

The abolishing of the restrictions imposed to stop the virus’ further spreads will especially help the tourism sector recover from the financial loss that it suffered as a result of the preventive measures introduced by governments in countries worldwide.
