There have been problems arising from peacekeeping missions that need attention, and a focus toward the health sector of peacekeeping is considered. Over the past decades, violent conflicts emerge basically from agitations for people’s needs, and not addressing the needs of peacekeepers that are made up of the military and police force majorly is an anomaly which can have consequential effect on the nation in future. Therefore it becomes objective and imperative to investigate the health consequences of peacekeeping and health care situation of Nigerian contingents. In doing this, access to medicals and compensations plans available for the peacekeepers were investigated.

In carrying out the study, different literatures concerning peacekeeping and their health challenges were consulted in order to know the contributions of scholars in peacekeeping mission. More so, these literatures served as a reference or bases which were used for the discussion of the findings of this study.

This study adopted a stylized methodology in data collection and data analysis. Data and information for this study was gathered through the administration of questionnaire and interviews from key respondents. The data gathered were analyzed with SPSS application and interviews were transcribed and analyzed to juxtapose the data gathered through the question for a better interpretation. This study employed primary and secondary data to arrive at its conclusion. In particular, survey method of structured questionnaire which consisted of close – ended questions and few open-ended questions ones as well as interviews were used to collect required information.

The Major findings of this study showed that there are considerable neglects and lacunae in the healthcare of peacekeepers while corruption has a strong grip on the compensation packages available for peacekeepers. However, some peacekeepers also contributed to some of the health problems witnessed by not abiding to the rules and regulations of peacekeeping when they are on mission.
