NIGERIA’S FOREIGN POLICY UNDER PRESIDENT OBASANJO (1999-2007)

Abstract:

The study set out to examine Nigeria’s foreign policy under the leadership of President Obasanjo (1999-2007). Principally, the study examined the nature, character, trend and posture of Nigeria’s foreign policy during the regime under consideration. By way of qualitative, exploratory research, predicated on the content-analysis method of social research, the study found out, among other things, that Nigeria’s foreign policy under Obasanjo was significantly vibrant and progressive. The study submitted that Nigeria’s foreign policy under Obasanjo (1999-2007) marked a significant departure from its immediate predecessor, particularly in terms of vibrancy and activism. The study also noted that the forceful traits of President Obasanjo’s leadership style contributed to the vibrant character of Nigeria’s foreign policy during the regime.
