THE PROBLEMS MILITATING AGAINST EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN IGBO-EZE NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ENUGU STATE

Abstract

This research work is a survey design, conducted to find out the problems militating against the effective teaching and learning of C.R.S in junior secondary schools in enugu west senatorial zone. Randomly sampling method was used to select six teacher and 24 students each from the six sample schools. The researchers used structured questionnaires to collect data from the respondents and also mean of the respondents in the data analysis. After some investigations, these findings were made;
the qualification of teachers teaching C.R.S, attitude of students towards C.R.S, extent of usage of available instructional materials and environmental factors affecting the teaching and learning of C.R.S. In the light of this findings the following recommendations were made. Teachers should consciously train in institutions of higher learning, schools should organize work shops and seminars to update their teachers teaching ability. Public and school enlightenment should be carried out on the importance of C.R.S so as to eliminate in students every negative attitudes towards C.R.S and finally government and school managements must ensure that learning environment are condusive for learning.
